Director of Health Services
Description
The Director of Health Services, a BSN prepared registered nurse, will ensure the fulfillment of the Health Services mission and goals through direct patient assessment and treatment according to standing orders, direct and manage of all Health Services activities, supervise Health Services personnel, and communicate with students, faculty/staff, consulting physician, local care providers, health agencies and others. The Director of Health Services will operate routine clinic hours, including weekly clinics.
Responsibilities
- Assess ill/injured students in clinic during scheduled clinic hours, and implement treatment(s) according to standing orders; refer to an appropriate community health care provider as needed.
- Assess and treat resident students in their rooms as needed.
- Assess and evaluate employees with work related illnesses/injuries and implement treatment(s) according to standing orders; refer to an appropriate community healthcare provider as needed.
- Administer emergency first aid on campus during scheduled working hours.
- Ensure compliance with DHEC and CDC recommendations, and SC regulations and laws, including immunization requirements.
- Keep accurate records of all students and any faculty/staff/visitors seen in the clinic (pre-registration medical requirements form on all new students, records of all consultations).
- Prepare new student medical forms and cover letters to be mailed after acceptance.
- Assist, communicate with, set up appointments for, and be medically supervised by consulting physician.
- Order, maintain stock, and sell limited stock of over-the counter medications during regular clinic hours.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement periodic screening programs, health fairs, or health education programs.
- Coordinate communication between student affairs personnel, faculty, staff, and student body regarding ill/injured students.
- Meet regularly with Dean of Students and Associate Dean of Student Life and Student Life for bi-weekly departmental meetings.
- Cooperate fully with all DHEC and CDC college health recommendations.
- Prepare purchase order forms for all bills and interdepartmental charge slips as needed and forward to accounting or indicated department.
- Manage and operate within proposed annual budget.
- Prepare an annual departmental report and submit to Dean of Students.
- Maintain, review yearly, and operate in accord with written policies and procedures and standing orders.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Ability to perform thorough nursing assessment.
- Proven skill in exercising sound nursing judgement.
- Proven skill in performing basic nursing functions (Injections, vital sign measurement, etc.)
- Ability to remain calm and composed in medical crises.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely.
- Ability to exercise basic counseling skills.
- Ability to perform basic office functions.
- Ability to manage and direct operations of a small health services department.
- Ability to supervise staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited university.
- Active, current license as a professional nurse in South Carolina.
- Current AHA BLS for the Health Care Provider certification.
- Minimum of two years as a professional registered nurse.
